Full name: Steven Allan Spielberg

Birthday: December 18, 1946

Place of birth: Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

Biography: The most commercially successful filmmaker in Hollywood history, Steven Spielberg was born December 18, 1946, in Cincinnati. In a career of more than four decades, Spielberg's films have covered many themes and genres. Spielberg's early science-fiction and adventure films were seen as archetypes of modern Hollywood blockbuster filmmaking. In later years, his films began addressing such issues as the Holocaust, slavery, war and terrorism. He is considered one of the most popular and influential filmmakers in the history of cinema. He is also one of the co-founders of DreamWorks movie studio. Marriages and children From 1985 to 1989 Spielberg was married to actress Amy Irving. In their 1989 divorce settlement, she received $100 million from Spielberg after a judge controversially vacated a prenuptial agreement written on a napkin. Spielberg subsequently developed a relationship with actress Kate Capshaw, whom he met when he cast her in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. They married on October 12, 1991. Capshaw is a convert to Judaism. There are seven children in the Spielberg-Capshaw family: Jessica Capshaw (born August 9, 1976) – daughter from Kate Capshaw's previous marriage to Robert Capshaw; Max Samuel Spielberg (born June 13, 1985) – son from Spielberg's previous marriage to actress Amy Irving; Theo Spielberg (born 1988) – son adopted by Capshaw before her marriage to Spielberg, who later also adopted him; Sasha Rebecca Spielberg (born May 14, 1990, Los Angeles); Sawyer Avery Spielberg (born March 10, 1992, Los Angeles) ; Mikaela George (born February 28, 1996) – adopted with Kate Capshaw; Destry Allyn Spielberg (born December 1, 1996). Spielberg's most important contribution to modern movies: There was an enormous audience to be created if old-style B-movie stories were made with A-level craftsmanship and enhanced with the latest developments in special effects. In Spielberg, the light source conceals mystery, where for many other directors it is darkness that conceals mystery. The difference is that for Spielberg, mystery offers promise instead of threat.

Reviews (Family Movies)

1. "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial". Steven Spielberg has said that "E.T." is the most personal film for him which is based on the recollections of his childhood. "He is very scared. He is completely alone, because there are three million light years away to his house" said Spielberg about his character. This creature has become the most popular movie stars after the film's release. A startling success of the film is a merit of Spielberg. He suggested to the audience not just simple film fiction, but fiction with a sentimental and beautiful plot. He endowed his alien with the best human qualities, and thought up for him a complicated destiny among the people. This film is about love, compassion and about the necessity for mutual understanding between people. "ET" opened a new paper in the history of filmmaking. Ten-year old boy Elliot discovers a strange creature in the barn and tells about him to his brothers and sister. But no one believes him. Soon, Elliot realizes that a strange creature is an alien, kind, funny, but very frightened and lonely. The boy hides him in his house and begins to learn to communicate. They become the best friends. Soon, an alien becomes the darling of all children in the family. They take care of him and protect against the dangerous world of adults. Together they are trying to think up how help a little alien to return home.
2. "The Legend of Zorro". Another film about the legendary hero Zorro this time was shot by greatest producer Steven Spielberg. And of course it had an enormous success. Spielberg filled this picture with remarkable moments and excellent special effects. The spirit of romance and love, a wonderful humor and a great deal of tricks, as well as an element of mystery makes this film interesting for diverse audience. “The Legend of Zorro” is a sequel to “The Mask of Zorro. Avenger in the black mask Zorro is on the watch of the California people. But there the main character Alejandro Murrieta De La Vega decided to devote himself to his family. But he did not manage to plunge himself in the family idyll. The new terrible threat made him take up arms again. Insidious Armand prepared a large-scale conspiracy against the country. Only Zorro can expose and frustrate his plans. But the villain learned the secret of the hero's personality, besides his wife and son turned out in dangers. This time, Zorro will fight not just for the ideals of goodness and justice. He will have to fight for the lives of his close people.
3. The Back to the Future is quiet interesting and exiting film. Certainly it does not claim to be a serious science fiction. But it is quite possible to be mentioned as a fantastic family comedy. Excellent and funny Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd who played the main roles in this film made it unforgettable and very amusing. As you can see from the name "Back to the Future" this movie is about time travel. An ordinary American student Marty McFly made friends with a crazy but brilliant inventor Dr. Emmett Brown who invented a time machine. But their friendship was interrupted by sudden death of scientist. And Marty McFly had to go to the past to save his friend. There he encountered with his parents, alive and relatively young Dr. Brown and one of the villains of the past who was guilty in the current failures of Marty's father. Marty accidentally prevented a meeting of his own parents. Throughout the story he was looking for ways to make his parents fall in love with each other, otherwise he risked to never be born. At the end of the movie villains were punished, the genius was saved, and the course of history had not been violated. And all of this was done beautifully, interesting and funny. As a result a very good, kind and funny movie came out.

Reviews (Drama)

1. "Saving Private Ryan". It is very hard to describe my feelings after watching this legendary and one of the strongest film directed by Steven Spielberg. This is great American drama about great American war. I do not think that the director tried to exaggerate the importance of American role in the WWII he only told us the story of 8 soldiers who were sent to save an ordinary private. We could see real emotions, courage and horrors of war. Spielberg showed us how people were changing during the war, starting life with different main aims and desires. They had to change or they would not survive. I would like to say thanks to Steven Spielberg who gave us a chance to think about terrible war once more.
2. "Artificial Intelligence: AI". In my opinion, this film is a very unusual and interesting one. We could see the picture of our future: the big part of the land was under the ocean, people lived in the megalopolises and technology reached unbelievable progress. The main character David appeared among a large number of robots. He had a human soul and kind heart. He wanted only one thing – become a real boy and then his mother will love him as her human son. During the boy’s attempts to change I felt sad because of the possible dramatic finale in which the boy would not be able to become real man. And the end of this story only strengthened impression of this film. Steven Spielberg filmed the remarkable, touching movie which I really loved.
3. "Catch Me If You Can". This is a biographical film about talented speculator Frank Abagnale. Steven Spielberg told us the story of Frank’s life with a lot of interesting, exciting moments. His life is a constant pursuit and an attempt to be in advance an experiment FBI agent. You should see this film to feel speed of Frank’s life. To my mind, “Catch Me If You Can” has a very interesting, fascinating theme, good music and perfect actors. I should say thanks to Steven Spielberg for this film!

Reviews (Horror Movies)

1. The film Jaws is the thriller directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Peter Benchley’s novel of the same name. The picture takes place in a small resort town on the Amity Island. Terrible events happen in this calm and peaceful place: in the morning a young woman’s body is found on the beach – she becomes the first victim of the white grate shark. The group of three “volunteers” is organized for catching the man-eater: Amity’s police chief, a shark hunter and a marine biologist.
There is nothing worse, than uncertainty! For the whole two hours the film “Jaws” keeps you in suspense, and all this time, despite of the horror, you can’t tear yourself away from the screen. I’d like to say thanks to the composer John Williams. During the film different music sounds which makes you shudder. And of course thanks a lot to Steven Spielberg, he’s the greatest director and “Jaws” is a remarkable film.
2. “Jurassic Park” was directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the novel of the same name by Michael Crichton, who then adopted the book. A rich man and a professor created a park on the Isla Nublar near Costa Rica, where animate dinosaurs lived. He invited several scientist-paleontologists to investigate the park before its opening. But because of the treachery one of the park workers, who tried to steal several test tubes with germs of a dinosaur, who had disconnected the protection system, everybody looked death in the face. That time when nothing restrained predators, following their instincts, they broke loose.
Steven Spielberg could create real dinosaurs – all the reptiles looked as alive. Of course after watching films like “Avatar” or “Transformers” we can see the computer graphics here or there. But it was a lag for those times. Nowadays not every director can show extinct animals so realistically, but Spielberg could. Besides, I suppose this film is right for children, as it will be very interesting for the young generation to learn all the information about the dinosaurs.
3. The film “Gremlins” can be carried in “Steven Spielberg’s film list”, though here he’s represented as an executive producer. A gremlin is an imaginary creature commonly depicted as mischievous and mechanically oriented, with a specific interest in aircraft. The film tells us about a lovely and fluffy animal named Magway. But there are three exceptions: he can die from the sunshine, it’s forbidden to splash water on him, and to feed him in the midnight as something terrible happens with this animal.
Loe Dante is the film’s director. “Gremlins” is among horror films, but under the pressure of Spailberg’s “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”, it turned into the comedy of horrors.
